Nature Photography- The Beginning

July 19, 2013  •  Leave a Comment

The world around us was still asleep when Rosa and I got on the road at 4am headed to Haleakala.  I'm not used to getting up early since I'm a nocturnal creature.  But I couldn't pass up the chance to watch the sun come up at Haleakla and photograph it.

Although I've always loved photography, I shot in "auto" for a long time.  I knew nothing about camera settings, rule of thirds, golden hours...   But if I ever had to pinpoint what made me become serious about photography, I would say it's nature photography.  I wanted to take better photos on my travels, to capture what I saw and experienced...  Photography became an extension of me and what I see.

I was awstruck by the beauty and magnificence of Haleakala.  And the rest of Maui, of course.  I did the best I could to capture the breathtaking sceneries that surrounded me.  By no means would I call myself a nature photographer, but photographing nature feels familiar to me.  Like visiting an old friend...
